Nobel prize for literature...for Herta Müller

I'm very very happy to learn Herta Müller is a Nobel prize laureate now. I have no idea if her oeuvre has been translated at all.
She's a great great woman; once i had a cuppa coffee with her. I love her books. Her big theme is how a subject transforms in a dictatorship. Her language is simple, full of weird imagery and immaculate.

She really really really deserved that...

So many reasons to enjoy this for any sci-fi fan.

1. Didn't treat audience as idiots and used it's full on political aspects to full effect
2. Mothership not hovering over New York
3. "Prawns" were great, especially Christopher and his son
4. Beautiful analogy to South Africa 20 years ago
5. Brilliant analogy to Germany 60 years ago
6. Almost believable
7. Hugely pulp in delivery in spite of the multi strata storyline...

Saw this article in the NY Times today and it got me thinking about the different cities I've been lucky enough to live in. The article describes a number of proposals to fix up Paris, and in particular the poorer suburban areas of the city outside the ring road. It's not clear that any of the proposals will actually be realized. But just that the French are talking about this is a good thing, so the consensus seems to be.

MOVIE TODAY 2009

I´ve been watching the double-disc version of Wall-e for quite some time and it´s a very good movie. Second disc offers some goodies for kids and there seems to be a 3-disc version too. This has perhaps some of the best Pixar-stuff so far and I´ve seen them all except that Rat-movie. The part where Wall-e goes to a spaceship of fat people is a bit silly but the parts with Wall-e alone in garbage...

New year, new reading. I´m sorry I couldn´t finish Neal Stephenson´s Quicksilver because I´m a shallow person. Chuck Palahniuk´s (Fight Club) Choke seems to be almost reading itself in front of my eyes.

Grace Slick & Janis Joplin art website

www.areaarts.com I was wondering if SK was at all influenced by Grace Slick's artwork? Some of it, especially the portraits of 60s music icons, reminds me of his work, as well as some of the other more psychedelic work.

On a sidenote, I've been listening to quite a bit of Jefferson Airplane lately, which is what prompted me to find out about her artwork.

The Church Band on Facebook

There's now a group page on facebook named The Church Band of which one can become a member when registered on facebook. This may proof handy for future event- and eventparticipation-planning, and there's room for starting discussion topics, uploading photo's and vid's etc.

Now who wants to register all the albums and give short apt descriptions?
