R.I.P. Greg Ladanyi (Starfish production / engineer)

Producer and artist manager Greg Ladanyi, whose company oversaw the careers of groups like Type O Negative, passed away this morning after sustaining a severe head trauma while on tour with one of his acts in Greece.

there were some interesting comments I've read on his blog. from an anon. telling him to get a real job. at first I thought it was just vindictive, but now, I agree. if he can do something for more money, he should do it. the church/solo work/ painting whatever can always be a hobby. it was an interesting point. maybe it's time to cut this dog loose.

What fascinates me most about Steve Kilbey and the Church is their tremendous ability to devour music history and forge something completely individual, forged with so much heat and energy, the result is something completely unique. Retro without being retro. Nothing sounds like something else, in the way Interpol clearly allude to Joy Division/Chameleons, Coldplay to U2, and that plethora of already forgotten next big things (all sounding suspiciously like the early XTC...Dogs Die In Hot...

In pre-internet times, I would devour every single bit of written church information and treat it like some holy scripture. Finding something new about the church was like finding some qumran stuff. i would read the production liner notes on every album, as i had nothing else to read. when i first read the AQSAS liner notes, it was like...hey, they actually DO exist!?!

Wasn't Steve saying last year that Painkiller was going to form as a band and do another album? He sounded pretty jazzed about it then. Is Painkiller just a one time thing now or should we expect another one?

Also, there has been talk over the last 5 years of Isidore doing another one. Has this been chunked?

I would absolutely love that as Isidore is right up there with my favorite Church albums and Painkiller is Painkiller.

1. 10 tracks....album isn't over-stretched eg Despite being amazing albums both P=A and FY were slightly over long.
2. No vocal contributions from MWP and PK. I don't mean to be disrespectful, they both have come up with with some fantastic tracks in the past but their songs always seem to disrupt the flow . SK is the voice of The Church.
3. Cobalt Blue....not yer typical Church opening track. This sets you off in another direction. The song is a grower and a sweeping mood...
