one of the reasons this band is so hard to pigeon hole. this is a very straight-ahead rock sort of album to my ears. the album that began the church's spinal-tap-like odyssey of revolving drummers.

i like most all of the songs (but i could do without 'don't open the door to strangers'). fighter pilot korean war & memories in future tense are particular favorites. pk's leads in bel-air are gorgeous. fretless bass, mmmmm. the 'bonus tracks' are even better, i love all three. ploog's great fills on 'too fast for you'.

maybe the most pop-sounding record they've ever or will ever do. some good songs, but much like radiohead's first album, or xtc's first 2 albums, or the beatles' first i-dont-know-how-many albums, it only hints at the greatness to come.
