Great review Fraulein....
.....I know the feeling......most of my ex's dumped me because they thought they were secondary to my music!
My wife actually thinks that too.....I do try to convince her....'No No how can you say that!!!!'
To be honest I can't live without both.

Starfish

It was the UTMW video on an Italian tv station.....I went and bought the album.I've been steady with the Church ever since!

I think Starfish is The Church's most consistent album. There aren't too many tracks ,they're not too long and all seem to tie up together for the simple fact that they are 'songs.'

And what songs!!!!!

I only have a problem with Spark.....the rest are sublime.
Destination-UTMW (ok....I'm tired of this one now)-Blood Money-Lost -NSEW-Antenna-Reptile-A New Season and Hotelwomb make this an almost perfect album.

Their songwriting matured and the band started giving us those dark psychedelic numbers (destination) which we would gladly relive on their next albums.

I think the main topic on this album though is the emergence of Steve Kilbey. The Church were already know for their guitar work but on Starfish ,Kilbey found his voice.
His vocal delivery on Lost ,HotelWomb made such an impact on me.All cool ,sexy.mysterious.

At the time Starfish was a great album to me but I was too hooked on the likes of U2,Echo,Smiths,Mission etc to give them the respect they deserved.
With GAF I got more absorbed into the band (sorry Fraulein ,we're going to come to blows again![but lets leave it for its own topic])....but it wasn't till I started losing interest in u2 (circa '95) that I came to realize what a unique and special band The Church are.

Starfish should have been Church's stepping stone in terms of commercial success....unfortunately it wasn't to be but to most of us here and so many more scattered all over the world it was to be the album that would introduce us and keep us insanely addicted to the band.
