GAF was my favorite album for 1990....and at the time I wasn't as fervent as i am today about The Church.
I think the Starfish/GAF era was the bands most constructive.
They had found their niche and were coming up with a lot of very good songs.
I think that Kilbey practically disowns this album more because of the memories it brings rather than the songs themselves.
As Erzine rightly said
...they had problems with their manager (they were promised John Paul Jones to produce the album ....and this never materised)
...drummer leaves the band ...leaving a rather dull sounding drum machine replacement
...the overall production was very disappointing.

...not to mention that after Starfish's success GAF was a step backwards in commercial terms when the band were hoping that they would build upon what they had so rightfully achieved in 88.

If GAF was a 10 track album it would have been as powerful as Starfish .
It did have some outstanding tracks...
-Pharoah-Metropolis-Terra Nova Cain-City-Disappointment-Laughing and Grind remain some of my favorite Church songs. That's 7 in one album.....can't be too bad ,eh ?????
