I like Song In The Afternoon - kinda dreamy and flows along nicely I reckon. But I agree that it is nowhere near 0408 or All I Know from EMD. Those 2 songs are killers. Bordello sounds ok to me. Quite fun - I swear SK is going to say he needs a replacement hip at one stage! :rollin
As for the rest of the album as a whole it doesn't quite do it for me. I said before getting it that I'm a bit acousticced out and need some electricity again and that hasn't changed. There are a few too many "slowies" for my liking - Its no Reason, TPAO, After Everything, Grind, etc. These don't really add much to the originals for me but are ok. And I love Grind the original.
However, I do really like Wide Open Road, Reptile (this albums Unguarded Moment in that it makes me forget the original version), Electric Lash, NSEW and Pure Chance (this is a real improvement on the ULTC version to me which could be because its trapped in the void of that album which is the trio of She'll Come Back, PC and Never Before - for me at least).
Appalatia is ok, again not much different to the original, and Tantalized is just odd - almost works I think but I'll probably skip it more than play it.
Comeuppance is ok but hasn't hooked me yet - which is a common thing for latter day Church instrumentals (both long and short!). When I think of old instrumentals like Golden Dawn, Happy Hunting Ground, Film, even Eastern, Remote Luxury, Romany Caravan, and so on they had real hooks that were memorable and as good as many of the other songs. Recently this isn't the case - most instrumentals seem to be ok to me with a couple of good bits maybe but a lot that is forgettable, eg Serpent Easy, Moodertronic, whatever the one from EMD was called (!). Anyway, getting a bit off topic here.
In summary... I see your 6.5 and raise you a 7.
