Fraulein--

re: "Lost My Touch"...I wanted to like that one so bad...that groove is so potent, and that rubbery guitar solo is a great touch, but again, its the lyrics. Or more specifically, the delivery. SK has a trademark vocal delivery that I love, one that utilizes space. Here, though, he's trying to rap, y'know? MC KILL-B IN DA HOWWWWSSSE! I love good rap. This is not good rap. "Welcome" actually works better as a "Church rap", because SK phrases it HIS way.

What I'm seeing in several of the more positive posts on this album is actually something I agree with--that it was cool to see the Church experiment with different sounds outside of what they were hitherto known for. Its just that they forgot to close the deal and make most of them into finished songs, with lyrics that aren't just whatever SK or Marty happened to utter into the microphone while the tape rolled. I'm eventually going to get my post up for MATS, which I think was a lot more successful at working outside of the usual Church parameters.

Always good to hear from you.
