what if....

Arista still cared about The Church at the time and released Authority as a single with a decent budget video ?

First of all releasing Two Places at Once as a single was a MISTAKE !
Who the hell makes these decisions ?

two places is ok , Steve Kilbey sounds like an elegant Bob Dylan , but its not one of the stronger songs on the album.

There were a few mishaps on SA , the production on The Maven , Angelica sounds like Jesus Jones , Business Woman has an awful chorus. But take away these tracks and you've got a very good album.

When The Church stick to 10 track albums , they sound all the much stronger. Take Starfish & AENT for example. HOB comes close.
and if GAF had 10 tracks it would have probably been their best album.

Back to SA...with Lost My Touch & Loveblind , The Church had their most foward looking tracks ever. Important fact...they did it well. (ok they fecked up with Angelica....but lets say this was a 10 track album...angelica would have been eliminated)

Steve Kilbey was in such fantastic form on this album. His vocals are impeccable. In My Little Problem he's delivered his most 'soulful' performance to date. His soothing , smooth vocals shine throughout the whole album.

Authority should have been a single.
