I would agree with you Fraulein . The horns and the string wall of sound , i can't stand them anymore. It's strange but I don't like this album as much as others like OSAH, B.C,SEANCE,and all the others. It has been said that the production was a little too heavy and Steve himself said He did'nt like the work made on the horns.Maybe the producer was not good enough,Jim Walsh isn't it?
In my opinion but that's only mine, I feel better with the exquisite crystal guitar sounds of the Remote Luxure LP.
Heyday has very good songs of course:Myrrh, Already Yesterday, despite the background vocals (tututututututu...)which sound audacious but almost ridiculous.Columbus is good. Also are Disanchanted and Roman and Trance Endings.I would have prefered keyboards than horns , for sure! This record is brilliant but too heavy produced, in my opinion.
When I listen to Heyday I want a glass of water immediately because this recording is too dense, in a badly sense.
It is very cohesive but it is not refreshing at all.
This album make me think of what The Waterboys could have done at worst on A Pagan Place'album if Mike Scott had been bad inspired.
And there are horns too on "a Pagan Place".
P.S:I'm going to forget that but It could be interesting:When I listened to heyday for the first time, I had hot fever and a big flu.
Love , Nicolas.
