Of the 3 Church shows I saw on the 2004 tour, Searay only opened on one of them, the last show of the tour, in San Diego, California.

I LOVED them, for the most part.

I will admit that their songs were occasionally lost in the maelstrom of sound they produced, & I will also admit that I felt that the singer/rhythm guitarist was the WEAKEST link in the chain(only a 1st impression mind you), but as far as being a 'band' goes, they were incredible. Psychic communication sprawled throughout this band, mainly in their use of dynamics & atmospheres...I've heard some of their recordings & they do not do justice to the musicianship & togetherness of these musicians.
By musicianship I'm not referring to the difficulty & intracacy of what they play, each musician is playing relatively simple parts, I'm referring to the blending, the communication, the LISTENING that each musician is doing. In that regard they are ALL amazing(Communication ROCKS, don't it?). By playing together this band is aware of every nuance & dynamic potential available to them & they use these ideas well, especially the Drummer.
He is God sitting in with a bar band.
They touch heavenly objects they did not knew existed, thanks to him.
