As most of you know pre-Starfish I wasn't really a Church fan.
Even when Starfish was out , although I loved the album , at the time The Church came nowhere near Echo & The Bunnymen to me.
Echo, their first 4 albums were untouchable .Then the self titled album was released , their weakest effort till then but it still had enough to keep me and my friends happy.
The rest is history , drummer died , they split up etc..................................

Time changes people and I don't like to look back too much when it comes to music but I'm also loyal to the bands I loved in my youth. So when Echo reformed I didn't hesitate to buy 'Evergreen.' It was good in parts but ordinary most of the time. It was still great to have them back though.
But really some bands are blessed with being loved by the critics. Echo & the Bunnymen are one of them.

Echo are sadly one of those bands that have never been able to retain the style , elegance , songs they wrote in the early 80's. Heaven Up Here & Ocean Rain in my book are two classic albums .

Read the reviews (esp in the UK ) of their latest albums though and one would get the impression that these guys have never been better. Yeah for sure they still come up with a few good tunes but these are far and inbetween and compared to their former glorys these good songs really pale in comparison. Its not a case here of a band moving with the times but a sad situation where the main songwriters (Mac & Will) either have a huge songwriters block or just couldn't be bothered.

I got Mac's solo album last week (Slideling) and what a load of utter bollocks it is. Rubbish. If I wanted to hear songs like that I would have bought the latest Oasis album. What a waste of a voice and talent. But , hey the reviews were great of course.

I can't help mentioning The Church now . Never really appreciated by the critics , almost loathed by them in the Uk.
You listen to The Church today and they keep getting better.
Time and lack of record sales hasn't hindered their confidence to perfect their art.So many real music lovers don't know what they're missing. What an unjust world we live in.
