No apology needed Matt... I was just getting defensive. Whilst I agree with Jean on a few points regarding the quality of the songwriting recently... I still think Ian's voice and their live shows blow many other bands out of the water (I hope Ian doesn't spoil that).
When I first heard Evergreen, I remember thinking this was the album that Oasis wanted to make. I hate Oasis, but to see Echo come back and make pop music that effortlessly, impressed me to no end. So I am probably a bit blindsighted when it comes to comparing the new with the old. I am so happy to have them back, that I am willing to let a few things slide. But I still think the last three albums run rings around the self-titled.
"Rust" still gives me shivers... "There`s something with these tears. Turning me to rust."
Does Echo deserve the attention? Probably more for what they did in the past and their influence than for anything now. But I would rather hear Ian talking himself up than Liam Gallagher or Madonna!! Nothing in music is fair... as Church fans we know that... but Echo is still in a position to lead new fans into the light!!
