A band name I always found intriguing was "Las Inslitas Imgenes de Aurora" (the unusual images of Aurora) a name used by the band that eventually became Caifanes and is now Jaguares.
Most metal/hard rock bands did indeed take weird names (e.g. Twisted Sister).
I usually don't mind names much, but some recent bands take very strange ones, "toad the wet sprocket" comes to mind as an example of a terrible name (I have no idea if their music is any good).
