I just read that George Bush is planning to bomb Wilco. Alec Baldwin has stated he will leave the country (again) if this happens, though he won't really. :)
As I stated Amanda, I don't listen to the radio, read music press, or watch MTV. I catch a few late night show performances and that's about it.
I just get a real sick 'here we go again' feeling when I see what's coming with Wilco.
Honestly, I think the album is quite listenable, if not forgettable on a few songs. Seriously, years from now I hope my children find a Wilco CD and ask me about the poetic line 'I dreamt I killed you again last night and covered your body behind a fireworks stand' (or whatever he says...). I'll tell them that he could have sang the nutritional label of a can of asparagus and the world would have swooned.
I sincerely think they are a good group. Better than average.
I guess I dragged my usual suspects (Kilbey, et al.) into the mix because ...and I know the music world is capricious... THEY have done it all before Wilco.
They perfected and continually perfect the art of songcraft and music. I'm not bitter that 'my heroes' haven't made it big. I'm very grateful -for so many reasons.
Wilco are a pleasant distraction. Some of their songs are quite good. You have to like the bell sounds and distorted Tele on 'Your Prayers...'
They will not be etched into the world's conciousness however.
Noel -wondering about his own prayers-
Cheers!
