Garageband.com is an interesting site. I have used it in a couple of different bands since about 1999. They almost went bakrupt during the dot-bomb bubble burst but reorganized. Jerry Harrison from the Talking Heads was one of the founders.

Bands can definitely use it to post songs and set up pages, but the requirement of reviewing of other people's music before uploading is what makes the site unqiue and useful. If you don't want to pay to upload (which they only recently made an option), you can review other musicians' tunes (about 20 reviews per upload credit). Then you write a short review that is forwarded to the artist. It ends up providing interesting feedback. And it also gives you perspective on what other bands might sound like. Some really creative, some utterly execrable. Incredibly wide variety of styles and locations. I usually end up recommending that they all listen to John Coltrane's Om and Meditations records, which I'm sure is terribly helpful.:lol

It is also fun and informative to read the reviews of your own songs and then look up the information about the writer. For my current band one song seemed to be popular with Swedish, Canadian, and English listeners but not impressive to the Lynyrd Skynyrd afficionados from rural Arkansas or the Dave Matthews-influenced band from Chicago. I think this is a sign of progress.

My band's page is www.garageband.com/artist/titans
