Looks as if this thread rather than the one in 'Other Artists' is getting the response...
I've listened through the CD twice now.
I'm surprised at the diversity and the talent onboard.
Those who stayed true to the original seemed to key in on nuances which may have gone unnoticed by lesser talent. Those who took the songs down different avenues did so bravely. I am very pleased to have been involved with such a great congregation.
Initial impressions yield a few thoughts:
Daniel's opener Tristesse is beautiful. Great arrangement. Daniel's voice is great here. Superb. Brilliant opener.
Alt:res... though I've heard your songs previously, they stand as complete, polished, original interpretations. Wonderful listening. I'm envious of your voice.
Matt ...Lurker... Cosmetic Attitude. This version of Constant In Opal sounds different from the one on my C.A. album. I like both of them! Great vibe. Great annunciation!
Alton Brousard. Lush, detailed... nice.
Maurizio (Mat). I was very curious about your song.
It delivers 'the goods'! Very nice. This is the detail to nuance which I referred.
Davide Valecchi. A very bold take on Pharaoh. I like the change just past halfway through.
John Black. You and I should do an album together.
;) Youth Worshipper is an oft-maligned song by the Church. Listening to your interpretation showcases the good aspects of this song. Aphrodisiac.
Tony Pucci. Bel-Air is a favorite of MANY Church fans. You were brave to cover it, E-bow choir and all. It's strange; you sound younger in this song! I know when you recorded it too... very nice version.
Noel Riddell (me) and Daniel W. What can I say? I wanted to do a stripped down version. Many thanks to Daniel for lending his amazing voice to this song. I'm pleased with the 12-string solo.
Tom and Paul. Loveblind is a great Church song. I really enjoy SA/SE. Loveblind reveals Kilbey and MWP's marriage of smart lyrics and poignant music.
You lads do it justice. Very nice arrangement. I have a cedar Native American flute myself. I can't play it at all!!! Bravo for using that amazing tool in your song. Very enjoyable.
Alton - 2. Nice version of My Birthday... leads into Invisible nicely.
Charcoal Ed. Invisible. It gets better with each listening.
Robert Lurie. I love Winter. I pine for frozen, snowy days. But I always feel a bit of joy when I see that first bright, sunny day when the ice begins to melt and you swear you can smell a bit of Spring in the air. This song somehow stirs those same feeling. I can't put my finger on it, but this song has 'something in it'. I'm very fond of it. Interesting arrangement. Seems quite heartfelt. Very nice climax too. Great job.
My initial views on disc 2 to follow.
Cheers, great job EVERYONE, Noel
