disk 2

Tony Pucci & Daniel Watkins - Electric - This starts with a breezy Postcard Record sound (if your still with me, thanks) including the Altered Images' "I could be Happy" guitar riff. I could see this in the UK indie charts in the early eighties or beyond. I love this version and think Daniel did an outstanding vocal take. Electric.

Cosmetic Attitude - Hotelwomb - Perhaps my second favourite on the whole CD (Robert Lurie is 1st). The intonation and meter in Matts voice is great and the backdrop widescreen, yet simply and sparingly visualised. Amazing.

Alton Broussard - Paradox - Sounds like it was recorded after a night on the batter with a bottle of Buckfast Tonic Wine (known locally as "wreck the hoose juice") thrown in. My head felt like it was swimming through a bad hangover self induced guilt trip. I really like this version a lot, although the trumpet sound is about the only common frame of reference I can make to everyday sober life. Well done.

Lunelac - Lost - Reminds me of Eloy or Nektar. Very spaced-out otherworldly interpretation and, given the overall ambience, recorded live as well I think?

John Black - The Night is Very Soft - I really like this a lot, it has that nervous walking approach in the background, a cool detatched vocal and the homage to Talking Heads "Electric Guitar" in the middle is astounding.

Tony Pucci - Dropping Names - This builds up like Talking Heads' (are you noticing a pattern here yet?) "Burning Down the House" then gets all Silicon Teens "Music for Parties" with a sine wave sequence. One of the coolest interpretations on the disk. I loved Tony's "Girl and the Sea" and this seems to have taken its inspiration from the same wide-eyed well of existance. I also love the pent up frustrated falsetto harmony tensions.

Magnetosphere - Field of Mars - Translucent in approach and the most "bathed in light" cover on the CD. Very true in spirit to the original.

The Jackdaws - This is It - I think Daniel hit it perfectly "This is the heroin version, with a low dark vocal to go along with it. Think of pouring cold maple syrup out of a bottle and you get the vibe of this cover. Ingenious.". I wish I was more descriptive sometimes.

John Black - Fading Away - John should just do his own full length tribute CD release: he just manages to produce the goods each time. Another directional and well visualised take.

Cosmetic Attitude - Ripple - Here's another one. Pumping, obliquely strategic and vital. I refuse to discuss this diamond further. I downloaded this ages ago and probably listen to it more the the original these days. Thanks for this Matt.

Tom Edgington & Paul Best - Loveblind (acoustic) - I think this version is totally different in effect to the one on the first disk, the song suits this lush acoustic environment perfectly and the mix is the most organic of anything on the CD: I'm getting rainforest canope here but then again I'm pretty stoned. I really like this a lot, one of my favourites.

Crome Yellow - Under the Milky Way - Yup, I was at gigs like that and my memories are as vague and as worn as that recording. Strangely enough though it was a comfortable experience, like an old long black coat smelling of sweat and spilt stale beer. Thanks for the memories ,I feel I was there.

John Frum - Don't Look Back - The best and only song to finish with. Great "open jam" sound: my speakers must be f*cked though, cause I'm getting more distortion again but here it kind of adds. Short but very sweet.

Disk 2 is very different listening experience to disk 1 but just as good and possibly more diverse. Thanks to everyone including Amanda and Reid for the stunning visuals and Ann for the webpage. Tony Pucci is a natural hub and I want to thank him specifically. Where does he get the energy?
