I don't listen to instrumental music every day. I seldom listen to electronic instrumental music. When I encounter this type of music it is usually with great distrust and a preconcieved notion of animocity. So I was suspicious of Trinary by default. BUT- I already knew half of the Charcoal Ed tandem from Antenna chats, Womb posts, etc., so my veil of prejudice was tempered with a more open mind than usual.
Track 1 'Alpha' is a nice opener. Warm, stringy refrain building the song into a chugging spacecraft.
Very nice. For lack of a better comparison, it echoes of certain moments of Gilt Trip which I quite like. Nice job.
Track 2 'Green Means Go' is probably the most straightforward of all the songs on the disc. It's not hard to imagine a dance club full of x-eyed ravers frenzying themselves to this song. Beneath the primary melody instrumentation there lies some tasty ornamentation.
Track 3 'Trinary'. One word to describe this song: Electrum. Silver and gold tone. Make sense?
Track 4 'Future Shock' could be in any forthcoming million dollar film. The next Matrix theme? Very nice progression.
Track 5 'Milagro' might be the funkiest song on the disc. The electronic lightning speed military snare is evil sounding. This music plays as the Gestapo make their way down a ruined ghetto street.
Track 6 'Run' is also slightly dark in flavor. Good workout for the speakers.
Track 7 'Consumption' Urban beats and deepspace saw bowing. Conjures images of good anime.
Track 8 'Lost Not Found' is probably my favorite on the disc. There is a lot of detail in the soundscape.
Stirs quite a bit of imagery. This song is not grasped in a single listening. Good work.
Track 9 'Everything is Different' has a gorgeous effected piano sound. It is bittersweet. Could be the soundtrack for a glorious, golden joy or the incidental music as tears fall. Excellent.
Track 10 'Heartbeat' surprised me. Very brave of the brothers Wilson to cover the late 80s Don Johnson hit! ;)
Actually, this song is superb closer. It makes me want to play along. Eno and Kilbey approved sounds.

The whole of Trinary is good. At least half of it is outstanding. It is a very well realised album. I enjoy it immensely.
Best of luck and hats off to Charcoal Ed.
Cheers, Noel
