...am a geologist and assess petroleum and chlorinated solvent groundwater plumes for a living. Bioremediation is very effective under the right circumstances. One thing I am proud to say is that Florida has figured out who one of the nastiest and most prevalent polluters are--dry cleaners.

The solvents they used are carcinogenic and your neighborhood dry cleaner up until recently likely dumped spent solvent out the back door. These solvents are denser than water and can go 100's of feet into the deeper drinking water aquifers. And there are thousands of them. Florida is one of the few states out there with a dry cleaning cleaning program.
