Time and distance has always confused me. Growing up in Chicago, driving the 17 miles to O'hare airport sometimes took 45 minutes, sometimes an hour and a half. Many people that commute to work, don't drive very far but because of traffic and road construction, it seemingly takes forever to get there. My drive to work in southern Illinois is 35 minutes, and about 30 miles.

Living in southern Illinois, I feel centrally located and about 8 hrs drive to most family members, but not all.
So I never visited my brother when he lived in Nebraska - too far, or my other brother in El Paso Texas for the same reason.

Allot of people in rural areas do travel more than 40 miles, especially if they have kids in sports and want to see their kids play. I don't mind driving 60 miles to get to a game, but 100 miles and they are in the same conference as our school gees I don't like it.
