If there's another thread then I missed it - sorry!

We talked to our daughter's pediatrician (and read up on the subject) and if you want to avoid meats there are plenty of non-meat alternatives that will provide all of the needed nutrients, including proper levels of protein.

Our thinking was that if she decides to eat meat as she gets older then she can. It seemed it would be easier for her to stay with a good habit, than to break from a bad habit later. I know how hard it is for me to get away from meats, and think how much easier it would have been had I been raised vegetarian.
