Actually my family in-law does have a tradition of drinking Vampiros (a tequila based drinking, see the Mixed Drinks thread) at Christmas, and it's not uncommon in other families, but in my case it used to alternate with a variety of drinks. Christmas eve would have for me options of high-ball, cuba (rum or brandy, just coke, no splash of lime), pia colada (non-alcoholic for the younger ones), and sometimes cognac at the end.
I'm yearning for some cognac now, or some good whiskie...

For beer there's a Mexican seasonal called Nochebuena (which would translate both as Christmas Eve and Poinsettia, since Mr. Poinset got the plant of lively red leaves with color peaking around Christmas (Nochebuena, geddit?) from Mxico when he was ambassador, but I digress...), it's a dark (more like brown, similar to Negra Modelo in color) beer, quite good.
And a Porter does indeed sounds good, I'll have to be the importer of them when I go back to visit the family.
