This is how I got to know and love the Church. Maybe some of you will relate to this story and some of you wont. It was my freshman year in college and I went to our local indy record store to pick up another copy of the Cult's Love album. I had a vague sense that I wanted something different, a kind of music that required intellect. What I had been exposed to up until that point was the standard AOR radio affair and a bunch of hair metal. These were the times of Bon Jovi, Van Halen and 1,000's more that wished to be like them. Well not me. I was too young to understand or express it at that time, but I wanted more. More what, I wasn't sure yet but I knew it wasn't going to come to me. I would have to find it. The Cult's Love was my start. It was different to the rock music that I had been hearing and I liked it. Then my dormitory RA turned me on to REM's Lifes Rich Pageant and Fables albums. I was on my way to identifying the type of cerebral music I was looking for. Anyway, I had gone to replace my copy of Love, and in that same rack was Heyday. The picture on the front caught my attention immediately. Here were four guys that were wearing the type of clothes I was wearing. That was enough to get it in my hands. Band name "The Church" cool name I thought to myself. "Heyday" what a title me says inwardly. Knowing that I was looking for something tho not quiet sure what I bought it. Instant bliss and instant self identification. I will post my review in a bit.
