F.M.:
I'm not backing off, you want excitement you got it, Numbers is the BEST Church song of all time.............. There.
Now let's talk about Heyday.
Myrrh, one of the best road songs of all time. Turn this up and drive through the desert sometime, the experience is amazing. It still takes me back to the time when I was in college driving through the southern Utah desert on my way to Phoenix, Heyday and Starfish never left the tape player. The desert does some strange things to you.
Tristesse, a sometimes overlooked classic until you here S.K. do it acoustic, it takes on a whole new life.
Already Yesterday, A poppy and pleasant song, not one of my favorites though, it would have fit better on an album like Blurred Crusade. I don't like the background vocals and Ploog's drumming on this one is not up to snuff, he sounds tired. Marty's and Peter's guitars are nice though and are the only redemption on this one.
Columbus, very nice song, The way Steve sings on this is superb, his vocals are almost therapeutic.
Happy Hunting Ground, very "trippy" and nice. The boys are trying to be artistic here.
Tantalized, What can you say it rocks, in 1985-86, it might have been considered the quintessential Church song.
Disenchanted, an almost sad but beautiful song, all the typical Church ingredients, jangly Marty, atmospheric Peter, Steve's calming voice and Ploog keeping everyone in line.
Night of Life and Youth Worshipper don't appeal to me at all, TOTAL FILLERS.
Roman comes back and saves the album from falling apart at the end. It starts out very melodic, but the wall of guitars is trademark Church.
My major complaint with Heyday is the sometimes criticized over production of the album. The horns and arrangements take away from the "Church Sound", parts of it almost sound like a Broadway Musical.
There are you happy now?

No song on Heyday comes close to Numbers........not in 2001
Ladies and gentlemen, I may need reinforcements on this one. Jean this means you....
