Last night I got to see one of my favourite bands for the first time.
I was 13 last time DEVO toured Australia and didnt have parents cool enough to take me. So over a quarter of a century later I got the chance to finally see them. After such a long wait I was pumped as were the rest of the crowd in the packed out Melbourne Festival Hall.
And the spud boys didnt disappoint pumping out a powerfull set and almost setting the crowd into a frenzy. A great show well worth the wait. Highlights included going under, uncontrollable urge, gut feeling etc etc.
The crowd was really interesting. Plenty of nerdy 40yo like myself but an amazing number of people in there 20s who seemed to be getting into the show as much if not more than the older fans. Perhaps they are more relevant now than the early 80s.
Anyway Im one happy spud this morning. So is my daughter who is running round the house singing DEVO classics underneath her shiny new energy dome.
