"We have most of their albums, this last one is the worst."
Each to their own I guess, but I'm never keen to see opinion masquerading as fact.........

People who say that a band's latest album is their best and people who say that a band's latest album is their worst are pretty similar. They're
responding almost without thinking, I believe.
Take a step back, listen to some other stuff for a while, and then come back to U23 with a bit more objectivity and you'll find it's really quite impressive. |

I have to say that listening to the live Foxboro show (available now in the Happy Hunting Ground forum for download) is giving me a whole new perspective on
the U23 songs. Some that seem lackluster on the record really shine in the live show. Bambolino -I highly recommend that you download that show and check it
out for new persepective on U23.

I've listened to the vinyl version all the way through. I was surprised that the track list is in a different order, and I found that I prefer it this way:
Side One: 1. Cobalt Blue 2. Deadman's Hand 3. Pangaea 4. Anchorage (here's where it changes, this is my favorite song on the album and I like it closer to the beginning) Side Two: 5. Happenstance 6. Sunken Sun 7. LLC 8. Operetta (great song, but I didn't care for it as the closer, it left me with the impression that the album was unfinished) Side Three: 9. On Angel St 10. Lunar 11. Insanity 12. Space Saviour Side Four: 13. So Love May Find Us (this amazing song brings the album to a dramatic end, and it's so long it's gets its own entire side!) I assume the Pangaea tracks were left off the CD version due to length restrictions, especially SLMFU. Now, I really enjoy the Pangaea ep, but Untitled #23 feels more complete to me in this order with those songs included. |

yeah.....
i think they should have put it out as a double. 'love' is a great bit of work. |

They could have put it out as a double if they were on big label but they are not. Double album could have been artistically the right solution but it would
have been a suicide in cottage industry business that they now are. Now even the usual extra-album was divided into two EP´s. I don´t mind it at all if they
make good business moves.

nah chrommo!
not so! wer'e broke....with a tiny fanbase. and wer'e putting out a three-disc box set. 'down to the cardboard' is their 'usual extra-album' and it's out soon! |

fantasticandy wrote:What I believe Chrome means by making a good business decision (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) is that a full length cd and an ep (the Coffee Hounds ep was not part of the vinyl version of U23, so I'm not including that) will bring in more income than a double cd will even accounting for expenses. Generally a double cd costs less to buy than a regular cd and an ep, so the band will make more when people buy both. And there will be some more casual fans who will buy a single cd, but would not buy a double, so they will get those sales too. And however much I love "So Love May Find Us" (I have to admit I haven't listened to "Insanity" or "LLC" much) and personally wouldn't mind it on U23 at all, I strongly doubt the album would be receiving the overwhelmingly positive critical reviews (esp. professional ones) with it included that it is receiving without it. It's just too long for general consumption and I think would bring out many "too self indulgent" complaints. Adding the other two songs from the Pangaea ep would just add more fuel to the self indulgent argument.

No need to correct anything. Those were perfectly good reasons to have separate releases.
What is this ´Down To The Cardboard´? I have heard a mention of it but is it real? |

it's real chrommo!
it's church go krautrock! interesting eh? out soon........ |

I don't agree that the album would have received less praise with the Pangaea songs included, considering the type of people who make up the Church fan
base.
Whatever the case, I don't take issue with them dividing things up for financial reasons. I'm only pointing out that, to me, the vinyl version is a better, more cohesive album with a more appropriate closer. |

Too Gay, I wish it were more, but I'll forgive them their heterosexuality
You know my partner doesn't lik the church material much at all. I have come to the conclusion, that not everyone likes everything. It's all about taste. |

Hi, it´s been a long time since I havent checked Kilbo´s blog. I have discovered some songs accopanying his videos (???) which I found very interesting. I´m
refering to that "Nineveh", "Gethsemene" and the one featured in the Changeling named blog. I really liked them, simple, instant songs,
recorded at his home -I supposse-, and the most important thing: no Tim Powles contamination involved here. So, the songs work!! I like the sound and the
bright clear production, instant little pearls.
Reminded me the old days ("Eathed", "Unearthed", "Remindlessness") whe he recorded with drum machines and an 8-track. I encourage Kilbey to make an album based on these songs he´s posting. "Gethsemene" is a really great song. I must say that I like these songs more than his last solo album (with the exception of "Wolve") and the last Church album. Anyway, does anybody knows where can I get them? Cheers

they are available on the blog. that's steve playing with garage band. back to the basics. yes, they "work". gethsemane is one of the best songs
i've ever heard, pure gloriously sad elegance. all very simple. i hope we see a new solo record in statu nascendi. after KK, Isidore and all, steve is
still best when he writes his own songs...
instant little pearls, yes, and i have no idea what else is lying on that ocean ground. |

Boriah, didn*t know you're a bloody poet
but you're right, telling SK what to do and what not to do is mostly pretty pathetic. i guess there's a reason why Steven John Kilbey does the things he does the way he does. all you'd say would be a fart in the wind -) |
