i love Pugwash, Thomas Walsh is definitely one of Ireland's best songwriters...and so is Hannon...and now they're together. And the artwrk looks like
something i might love!

I had read about this and it sounded interesting. My only worry was that the cricket theme would be a turn off. Just like watching a baseball-movie is quite a
drag when there is zero knowledge or interest to the sport and then you are supposed to care what happens in the games (Field Of Dreams being the lone
exception).
Excellent pop stuff and sometimes very much like the music the bandleaders use to do anyway. Jiggery Pokery was fun and silly even though I didn´t get any of it. Meeting Mr Miandad seems to be a single but it wasn´t like a hugely advanced song compared to others, which means it´s quality stuff all the way. The Nightwatchman was most like The Divine Comedy and therefore of course my fave. Hilarious ELO hints there too in that song. See and I managed to get this far without inserting the word Beatlesque somewhere...until now. The warm atmosphere of the old world is fun for a couple of listens. It´s all so english that it´s hard to imagine any kind of pull for this outside the nations that play cricket. Actually they are both irish, I know that, I just have no idea if they play cricket in Ireland. This will be my final push to launch in to The Divine Comedy binge! Thanks!

I'm going up town on Thursday to buy it. Will report back. As a Scottish person, I'm not allowed to like cricket, "because it's for poofs,
women and Englishmen". ;D
It reminded me a bit of "The Village Green Preservation Society" by the Kinks in fee at the time. In saying that I was slightly grassed out. Brian |

Mason on the Boundary is heavenly, with some great Rickenbacker...the brass band sample on Age Of Revolution is just right in place...and Rain Stops Play is a gorgeous little instrumental. All songs at least good, some plain feckin gorgeous. Walsh & Hannon = 3 great songwriters. Off to Pakistan in a camper van: fandorin! |

It´s an enjoyable album all right. I listened to Victory for Comic Muse and all the other Divine Comedy albums in a row too. A bit too much at once.

Been listening to this album all week - it's a brilliant piece of work. Nothing like watching the Ausies win a oneday game with this playing in the
background (shame about the ashes though)
The Night Watchmen is just ingenious and Mason on the Boundary is up there also ! Definately the surprise of 2009 |
